EDM or Electrical Discharge Machines are primarily used for metals that are extremely hard or those that would be impossible to machine with other equipment. They are great for cutting or forming intricate shapes, pattern or even cavities that would prove much to difficult to produce with standard tooling machines. For the part to be worked, it has to be conductive to electricity to be used on an EDM machine. The two primary types of EDM are Ram and Wire.
A large portion of EDM work is the making of sub assembly parts that are small and go into another part to make the whole part function. The EDM machine is will suited for those types of intricate applications.
